Our March meeting was filled with lively discussion about our next challenge: "Urban Graffiti" and some great Show and Tell.

Check this link to read the Wikipedia definition of graffiti. It is more broad based than at first imagined.

Show and Tell included some amazing works in progress on the Urban Graffiti Challenge and some amazing finished works by our remarkable members!

Laurie Bucher showed a collaborative piece she did with her son, who is a painter. It was a social commentary, profoundly executed. This will be her entry into Urban Graffiti.

Urban Graffiti is a juried show and will be displayed at the Road to California show in 2016.

The recent show at Muzeo in Anaheim included two pieces from member Linda Anderson.
Her piece, The Grand Guard, was one of the pieces and it was sold to an Orange County collector.
Congratulations Linda!!!

Trish and David Charity each showed off their entries for Urban Graffiti. It is inspiring to see all the various interpretations of the theme.

Appearances Challenge

The challenge topic for next year is “Appearances.”  The size is 18”x 24”, you may choose portrait or landscape orientation. The emphasis of the challenge quilts should be on surface design/collage/etc.  Quilts are due at the January 2014 meeting.  QOTW will have the opportunity to exhibit these pieces at the Glendale Quilt Guild show in March at the new Pasadena location.  There is the potential that the quilts may go to the new IQF venue in Portland.

Just wanted to let everyone know that our very own Sheila Frampton Cooper is on Alex Anderson's and Ricky Tims "The Quilt Show".

Sheila is the featured artist on one of the newest shows. If you hurry on over (sign up for free if you are not already a member) you can watch her show free until September 19, 2013. I watched it and it is fabulous. She is a natural in front of the camera and her technique is well covered and looks like a lot of fun.

Sheila also has a great website if you have not been over to visit it yet.

I hope everyone gets a chance to view Sheila in action on The Quilt Show before it goes to the members only area.

Save a date to come visit wonderful Temecula and see this fiber art exhibit. Opening night is October 4, 2013.

Come on the first Saturday of the show and also enjoy the local guilds outdoor show. Spend the day or spend the weekend and enjoy some wine tasting in wine country or even in Old Town at Tesoro's. Want more exercise? Try hiking on the Santa Rosa Plateau.
